'85 Colt Gold Cup rear sight

Hello all:

I am looking for a replacement to the Ellaison rear sight which came on the original Gold Cups of that time. Mine is in perfect condition, but I am looking for something less sharp on the edges - something rounded or sloped.

The newer Gold Cups have dovetailed sights. Mine is the single pin, spring loaded.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks Rick

I had thought about modifying, but didn't want to alter the pistol permanently. I did not know anyone made the Elliason sights anymore. GREAT INFO.

I checked out the night-sight version as well. It seems to be a bit more rounded. I cannot tell you how many gloves and how much skin has been ripped on the original rear sight.

Thanks, again, for the reply and info.

Gold Cup was designed as a target pistol, not a holster gun. I don't carry mine even tho I don't Bullseye anymore. Perhaps you could trade for a better carry piece. I bought a Lightweight Commander a while back, has Novaks on it. It's much better in a holster than the Gold Cup will ever be.

During different centuries, I actually carried Gold Cups, a 1976 and 2012. Back in the last century, I rounded the rear factory Elliason sight on my '70 Series Gold Cup after I cut myself carrying it. The factory sight on the later gun was already rounded. Yes, I realize there are smaller, lighter, higher capacity, etc, choices, but both Gold Cups served well.

Rock185 - Yes. Very early on I carried my GC. But, back in the 80's all the 1911s had sharp edges - so, I never thought about it. Now I carry Glocks [since '94]. But, I can still scrape/cut my hands racking the slide on the GC. The blade on that rear sight is SHARP.

Pete - The GC was the first handgun I ever purchased. I'd never sell it, or trade it. After more than 30 years, it still shoots 5 shot ragged holes and sits in the night-stand every night.
