8 BHP models now "approved" for PRK!

I was just scanning "the list" of guns available in our fair state and noticed that the number is up to 617 handguns.

Among those:

BHP .40

BHP MKIII 9mm

3 Models of BHP with either fixed or adjustable sights (6 variants)

Well, I dont imagine they would have paid some $15,000+ to get all that done if these were not going to be readily available soon.

Personally, I have a Kareen - an Israeli HP that is OK - but the slide fit is poor and lately, it is not extracting properly.

I actually have a lot of hi-cap mags for the HP and I have been thinking I would like to get a nice one...

Last Saturday I picked up a 68 "T" series HP in factory blue with the orange back wood grips.

It was previously unfired.

Not any more!

There is a BHP listed that is nickel-plated or stainless, I can't remember. Anyway, I found no such Hi-Power on the Browning website. What's the deal with that?

Also, what should we be expecting to pay for a NIB BHP?

hmm

Well, the guys at the store I frequent said they have not got anything on new BHPs coming into the state.

They speculated that maybe someone had a bunch on hand and wanted to get them approved (?)

I have heard rumors that there are BHPs "on the way" from FN.

I really don't know.

One nice thing is that you can now buy one of the approved models from someone out of state and have it shipped in to your FFL - (online auctions anyone?)

As for hi-cap mags, fugetabowdit

In CA, you cannot, for any reason, buy, sell or transfer hi-cap mags to anyone for any reason (except LE or Mil). Infact, if i was to sell my Israeli HP, I would not be able to transfer the mags legally.:barf:

Let's see the BHP came out in 1935 and Kalifornia just now has listed them as 'approved'? Talk about a lot of red tape! Sorry, I couldn't resist -- I really do feel for those unfortunate pistoleroes in PRK.

Were I limited to stock magazines, I'd look at the BHP in 40 calibre, even though its a small departure from the original 9mm. I haven't looked at the 40 for pricing, but it usually pays to look around for a good deal, if possible.

Great news. Excellent pistol now available to CA residents.

I'm just kinda guessing here, but I think around $550-$650 would be right for a new Browning.

h_tolley,

Remember that the "approval list" just started for 2001, so it's just this year we haven't been able to buy the BHP.

Of course, I just turned 21 this year, so as far as I'm concerned I've never been able to buy a BHP until now :)

Wish I had been into guns when I was 18, so I could've gotten a Bushmaster before those became too evil to own

FN hasn't stopped making Hipowers. I bought a NIB 2001 model Hipower a couple of months ago down here in Florida. I don't think they're shipping them over in large numbers, but they are being shipped in.

FWIW, I paid $550 for a standard Hipower.
