Long story short I appeared to have lost my reloading info and cannot remember which of these powders I reloaded with. I know I've used both for this gun but don't remember which was more accurate. Planning on shooting through my chrono to see what speeds I am getting with what I have left for a better indicator. Which do you prefer out of the two? accuracy is number one goal speed is number two. My current load is getting me just barely over 1/2 moa at 100 yards out of my vanguard s2 wish I could remember what is in it!

I shoot a 150grn Nosler BT over 45.5grns of H4350 for 2700fps out of my 20" Remington 700 SPS Varmint contour. Groups are under 1/2" if I am on.

IMR4064 was the favorite for accuracy when the 7-08 was popular in high power match rifle competition. While IMR4350 shot bullets out a bit faster, they didn't land as close together as what IMR4064 would make them.

I get very good accuracy out of 42 gr of varget pushing a 140 gr nosler BT out of my model 7 rem, and with my Ruger MKII i use 39.4 gr 4064 pushint a 139 gr Hornady interlock
I also get very good accuracy out of 40 gr IMR 4895 pushing a 150 gr Nosler Partition with my Model 7 Rem
I dont have a chronograph so I dont know what I am getting for fps..

What's the weight of the bullet you're sending?

4350 is widely used, but some think it's more of a .260 powder (I use it for that rifle) and a bit slow for the 7-08.

I used H4350 initially, with 162's. I went up a small notch in burn rate to IMR 4350 and picked up substantial velocity (now right at 2800), but I think I may have lost a tad of accuracy. More testing to come...

Picked up a jug of H414 (one more notch faster) to see how it does.

sorry i wasn't more specific. i posted on my phone so it took me a while to type and left out some information. i am shooting hornady interlock 139 grain with boat tail. i have used this on roughly 10-15 deer the last few years and have never seen one make it out of sight! i have all but quit rifle hunting for much of anything except squirrels, but i decided to try to get into predator hunting (coyotes) this winter. I've become a bow nut and now most of my rifles just look pretty in my gun case. i realize this caliber is a little big for coyotes, but its the smallest i've got to get into it with. The handguns still get brought out a lot for paper punching.

Anyway back on topic according to http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle the 4064 is faster than the 4350 but most people seem to disagree. like i said before the accuracy is always my number one concern. i've never shot paper past 300 yards and never an animal past 200 yards. most all my hunting is in the woods or a few acres of field here and there. i think i will start with the 4064 and see what kind of accuracy i can get. if i can get it back to where it was, i will be happy!

I have tried H-380, IMR 4895, and IMR 4064 so far. 140 gr Sierra Pro Hunters in my Rem 700 TI with 22" barrel. So far 4064 is the winner by far. First node 42 gr, about .250" @ 2665 fps, 50 degrees. Wanted to see if I could Speed it up a bit and still keep accuracy, increased to 43.3 gr, now .416" @ 2765, 24 degrees, which should be about 2800 fps @ 50 degrees. That is allowing about 1.3 fps per degree F. My goal was 2800. Neither 380 or 4895 were even close in accuracy. Next on the list is Varget. Stayed away from IMR 4350 because IMO it is too slow to get "there" unless charge is compressed. Anyhow, my progress to date. Good luck experimenting.

PS.....have shot the old Hornaday 139 gr light magnums, velocity was 2950.....great, accuracy was about three inches.....Lousy!!!

Best powder I use in 7mm-08 is Ramshot Big Game, very fast and accurate, can push 140s to 2900+fps easy. Most accurate across all weights though is H380 120-160gr shoots super tight. H4350 did perform well with 145gr Speer BTSP at 2830fps shooting sub 1/2" groups, RL19 shot reasonably accurate with 160gr but I could not get much speed 2500fps well below what the manual suggested.
My go to hunting load in 7mm-08 is 47.5gr of Big Game pushing a 140gr SGK loaded to 2.777" fast flat and accurate.

IMR 4064 is what I use in my 7mm08 Vanguard 20" carbine. Seems to work well enough while slightly reducing the fireball out the front.
