7mm STW

I have a model 700 action (the appropriate one) and I have a stock that I like and will purchase a Ted Guillard barrel. I am hoping to have a gunsmith in canada (I know of an expert) build a 7mm STW for use as a mountain sheep gun. The action is not stainless and the barrels are. What else will be needed for the gunsmith to build this gun? Should I purchase a jewell trigger? What about a new trigger guard? Will it look odd having the barrel stainless? Should it be painted? Does it need to be accuratized, bedded etc for maximum accuracy? With the stock, trigger, barrel and action how much work will the Gunsmith have to do in terms of hours? Any suggestions would be welcome.

All you really need is a barrel. You can add a Jewell trigger if you feel so inclined, I would. As far as finish, if it bothers you to have a two-tone rifle, have it finished with GunKote, and you will gain the additional benefit of having excellent rust protection on top of good looks.

I put a Lilja stainless barrel on a Husky action.I sandblasted the barrel with a Harbor Freight Zirconia sand and then sprayed it with Guncoat and baked it. had access to a nice electronic controlled Labratory oven.It came out really nice. The Guncoat completely filled the sandblast so it looks like a smooth blue job.
I will say Guncoat does not seem to flow out and level during the bake. What you see will be what you get.I had used a very fine steel wool with a very light touch to blend out a spray flaw or two.Thats not a bad thing to have in mind

Thanks boys. I didnt want to waste the Smith's time but I will phone him and ask what I need. However, I do think its useful to discuss it here so I can learn.

I contacted the gunsmith. He will need the stock and action and will order the rest. Another 7mm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a standard synthetic Remington stock with a cheekpiece which I like the feel off. Would another sort of stock increase accuracy?
