Hello, My first post on this wire and I already have a question. I would like to get some info on the 7mm Rem Mag. I was able to get one really cheap because this guys wife surprised him with a Weatherby and the gun has 20 rounds thru it. It is a Remington 700 Synthetic with that Rem matt black finish.

Well, I have not shot one of these, but I do know this abot them:

1. Recoil and muzzle blast are simply amazing!
2. This round has an excellent record for long range accuracy and terminal performance.

You may want to grab a reference book and look up the ballistics. I know that this round can toss a big pill very far, very quickly. It is certainly sufficient for most creatures one would hunt in North America.

Al,

I've hunted with the 7mm Rem. Mag. for several years and love it. Mine is a stainless Win. Mod. 70. I find it recoils about like a 30-06, not bad at all. At 300 yards you still have more energy than a .243 does at the muzzle. It's definately a great long range rifle, and can be used for anything in North Americia. I use it with 150 grain bullets for whitetails. If I were moving up to Elk or Moose, I'd go to a 175 grain bullet. I've hunted deer with everything from .243's up to 300 Win. Mag's, but I purchased the 7mm because I wanted a flat hard hitting caliber for anything in North Americia. If you decide you just can't stand the rifle, I'll reimburse you for the shipping just to get it out of your way. Good luck!

Thanks guys, I have owned 4 30-06's (3 700 BDL's & 1 Springfield) loved all of them but this just kind of fell into my lap. I will have to do some more research on this guy. I may end up tradin it fer a 444 at some point. I live in a brushy area and a long range gun is not that effective at 50yards.

I guarantee you that if the 7 mag will kill a deer at 400 yards, it will darn sure kill them at 50 yards. I've killed deer at less than 50 yards with my 7 mag on several occasions. The 444 is not going to do it any better.

Hi freestate, I wasn't to worried about the deer. I was worried about the "BIG" furry that you may surprise or that surprises you. It would be nice to have some kind of anti-tank weapon. I guess, since I have lived around them all my life I normally take them for granted but one of these days it will happen.

Al,

I have been shooting(hunting) with the Rem 7mm Mag since 79. This cal will do any thing that a 444(had one of them too) can do and quite a lot more. If you reload, you have a lot of good bullets/loads to chose from that should meet any and all of your needs.
