788 Rem. trigger

Looking for some tips and tricks for improving a Remmington mod. 788 trigger. I just rebarreled in 22-250. (26 inch fluted octogon shillen) in a Chote sniper stock, shoots great, but the trigger is not all it should be.

What can be done with the stocker? Is any other trigger useable? what about a double set type? TIA, Paul.

I replaced my 788 trigger with a timney. I had my gunsmith work the stock trigger down as much as he could, but it was still pretty heavy (around 5lbs). I had to do some light mods on the stock to fit the timney. It just took a dremel and about an hour to figure out exactly where it was touching. I love it now! Timney triggers are well worth the money!

The replacement spring took my trigger to just under 3 lbs. I am satisfied with it, and didn't see any reason for the Timney. If I had been stuck with a 5 lb trigger and creep, I would have replaced it.

Easiest and best way to go is replace with a Timmey trigger. It will probably be cheaper in the end.

I also just just rebarreled a 788 with a heavy Kriegger barrel in 250 Savage Ackley Improved. Last week I fired several 3/8 inch groups.
