762 Grabber Conversion

I've been on the lookout for a used MEC 20 ga reloader. A local guy has a MEC Grabber 762 model in 28 ga asking $150 and probably has room for negotiation. Would the price of conversion to 20 ga on this unit make this not a good way to go for me? I believe I'm mechanically inclined enough to do the conversion myself if I had the parts. I'm not knowledgeable to what a conversion on one of these costs. Thanks for your help.

Contact MEC directly - and they'll tell you if you can convert it or not ...

It might be convertible ...but I wouldn't do it.../ the parts will probably cost you more than just finding one in a 20ga - there are lots of Grabber loaders out there on the used market .....and they're popular so you'll just have to be patient / or just order a new one ....

Recob's target shop - has good prices on new Grabbers - and they probably have them in stock / they have a good website and I've dealt with them a lot / they're good folks.

I wanted to let you guys know that I picked up a MEC 650 yesterday in 20 gauge. I purchased it from a local guy who bought it new and loaded only a few boxes for his wife's gun on it. It has been stored for several years but it is in great condition. He had quite a few accessories with it including the Super Sizer. I know it is a used unit but there is at least $500 worth of reloading tools in this package (that includes the press). MEC reloading tools are not cheep in price but they are good quality and built to last. Thanks for the guidance you guys have given me through several posts I have posted here.:)
I'm sure I'll have a few questions for you as I get this unit set up and begin loading on it.
At this time I don't hunt so I will be making up loads for busting clays when I go out to the desert to shoot.

I checked out that book from the local library several months ago and you are right. That is a good book and will probably purchase it for reference.

The MEC manual is your best resource ....and you can download it free from the MEC website.

Good buy, by the way -- congratulations.

My 12-ga 650 is 43-years old and the only parts I've changed have been the wad guides (the fingers break) and a spring, or two. I have upgraded the priming system and added an adjustable charging bar.
