760 action tube

I have a Remington 760 and am trying to remove the action tube assembly. It is very tight and any punch or dowel that I try will either bend or break before the tube loosens. Brownells used to have a tool for this made by Tom Menck but has since discontinued it. Does anyone out there have a solution to my dilemma?

I always used a regular punch. Just make sure the receiver is clamped tightly in a padded vise (leather is good). That hole is pretty big and I find it hard to believe you bent a good punch of that diameter.

Still, you might try spraying some penetrant (try G96 Gun Treatment) into the hole and let the gun sit butt down for a couple of days.

I've always used a punch of the correct diameter and a couple of good sharp raps with a heavy stick. If this doesn't work spray a little penetrating oil and let it work overnight. I've never had one fail this treatment.
