700 LTR scope mounting

I am still wading through the options for mounts , rings and a scope for my LTR . Since this rifle will be used at a max range of 400 yards [and I am a cheap skate] I am looking at other options beside the Badger/TBA/Mark 4 style setups . This rifles strong point to me is its light weight and compactness , I would rather not weigh it down with a pound and a half scope mount and a huge scope . I like the Leupold Vari X III Tactical 3.5x10x40 [not the LR version] for the scope and I was looking at the Valdada QD Tactical lever rings and bases . Does anyone have any input on this scope or the Valdada mounting system ? http://www.valdada.com/rings/vqdrm/index.htm

Thanks , Mike...

On my LTR, I am using Leupold 2 piece dual dovetail bases and rings in matte. Light and very strong for recoil (although not a concern for me.) I use the 2 piece base as all 4 screw holes are utilized. The one piece dual dovetail base for the XP-100 works, but uses only 3 of the 4 holes. I cannot remember if the rings are low or medium.

My LTR is in .223 and the scope is the Leupold Vari-X II 3-9X40 Tactical Mil-dot.

i have a GG&G one piece base on my LTR which at the moment has some cheapie rings holding a Springfield 6x40 to it. i recently bought a Nightforce 2.5-10x40 illuminated reticle scope and once i can get some ARMS rings it will go on the LTR.

i'd like to have a Leupold MK4 10x40 w/ illuminated mil-dot in Badger rings & base.

but i paid $10 for the GG&G base, so i think id does just fine.

A second on the Leupold 2-piece dual dovetail mounts. I'm using them on my first LTR in .308 with medium rings. My Leupold scope is a 42mm AO so I opted for the slight increase in height. As I recall from the Leupold website www.leupstv.com/home the low rings will accomodate a 40mm objective. I'd been looking at the Iron Brigade bases www.ironbrigadearmory.com/home but couldn't really see the point, atleast for me.

I'm using the Leupold medium height Weaver style (cross slot) quick disconnect rings and two piece bases on my LTR. I think this a slightly stronger option to the dual dovetail mounts.

According to Leupold's own advertising and catalog, the Dual Dovetails are their strongest (other than Mark4). I used the low, and from my measurements, the Tasco SS10X42 would have fit in the medium 30mm rings on an LTR, but not a PSS.

I do like the QRW, but for the LTR, I wanted lighter weight. I considered them for my PSS, but went with Badger.
