7.65 Argentine/7.62 acp or x25 Insert?

I inherited an old 7.65 mauser and I don't really have much use for it. It's iron sighted and the round really isn't anything over the 30-30 in performance. But, for small game and plinking, it could be fun. I can't find an insert or adapter specifically for that caliber but I found a 7.62x25 for the .303 Brit and 7.62 x 54r on sportsmansguide.com.

Does anyone know if those inserts could be made for use in the old rifle? I looked up the case specs for each and I certainly would not fire a .303 in a 7.65 argentine gun, but using an insert might work. I dunno though. I don't want to ruin the old gun, just use it without spending $1.20 per shot or having to reload for it (for what little I'll use it).

I cut a 7.7 Japanese barrel to 7.62x25. It was really ugly cause I was just messing around. That barrel would be real close to a 7.65 Belgian Mauser barrel. At 25 yards it just spit them out side ways. I called a class 3 guy that makes barrel replacements for Russian Burp guns and he said he uses .308 blanks because the bullets are always undersize. That is the guys business and I don't want to say he is wrong, but he is wrong. I checked a lot of bullets from all over and they held around .310 Either I had a bad barrel or it can't handle the twist rate. I never got time to check with a .308 barrel so I don't know.

I've sent lilred 2 emails now with no response. I guess I could call him but his site says to email him for orders.

mCace does make a 7.65 22mag insert, but that's not really what I want. I have a couple of shotgun 22 inserts and they don't group any better than my 22mag derringer does.

Anyway, I'll keep on a'lookin'.

I tried another email address on the mcace site and got a reply from them. So, we'll take things from there. Sounds like this could get exciting... well as exciting as a 90 year old gun with iron sights can get.

I don't know why you think the 7.65 Mauser is equivalent to a .30-30 round. It is definitely more powerful than that, and equals or exceeds both the .303 British and .30-40 Krag.

Furthermore, 7.65 Mauser cases can be made by resizing any of the 7mm and 8mm Mauser, and .30-06 family of cartridges.
