7.62x54R to 7.62x39

Awhile back I saw a chamber insert that converts 7.62x54R to 7.62x39. I have been unable to find it again now that I want one. Does anyone know where I can locate one of these. 7.62x39 would be cheaper and less punishing to shoot through my M44 mosin-nagant.

Pretty sure. It was just an insert kind of like the ones for .223 so you can shoot .22lr. You place the smaller cartridge inside the adapter and then chamber the whole thing.

Since 7.62x54 is rimmed and 7.62x39 is "rimless", you wouldn't have a way to extract a cartridge from the chamber.

That insert must have been the type to convert a CZ-52 rifle in 7.62x45 to 7.62x39.

I have seen those inserts. They are shaped like the 7.62x54R case. You load the 7.62x39 into the insert, then chamber the insert like a cartridge. You fire, extract the insert, poke the empty case out with a rod, and reload. Tedious, but it would work after a fashion. I have not used them, so I don't know how well they stand up or if the insert expands under pressure.
