7.62x54R Ammo Recommendations?

I'm waiting to pick up a "new" Mosin-Nagant M44 carbine I ordered from AIM Surplus (it looks great by the way). Anyway, I want to order some ammo. I've never bought this caliber and would appreciate any recommendations about decent, inexpensive ammo for plinking. Thanks.

My experience my not be common, but...

The Czech "light bullet" lacquered case ammo is very sticky in my Chinese M53. Had no problems with Barnaul (Russian in red/white/blue boxes) ammo. It is a heavier bullet. Go figure. BTW, these rifles kick like a jugheaded mule.

I don't find that kick all that bad. I found a bolt action 12 guage kicks harder...

I shoot surplus russian stuff. I've only had one fail on me in about 400 rounds.

I really enjoy my MN's. The rabbits don't stand a chance! :D

I own many MNs and tried many different brands of ammo. There is a yellow/silver tipped 181 gr. load (copper washed case) that proved to be a bad choice for all my MNs - it seems to be loaded
too hot and makes it very difficult to open the bolt after shot is fired. But it's quite accurate. This was a case for all my MNs w/o exception. I heard that it is intended for use in machineguns. May be you should stay away from this "yellow/silver bullet" ammo.

On the other hand, Hungarian 147 gr. ammo from AIM was just about perfect, not a single problem. Also, 203 gr. SP Russian hunting ammo proved to be very accurate for practical purposes. Both have steel cases, by the way...

If you reload I can recomend the S&B New Production, as it is NON-Corrosive (really) and reloadable.

On the possibley very good side there is a rumor that Winchester may be starting production of 7.62x54 & 7.62x25 and 9Mak. But as with all rumors take with a grain of salt. But the S&B stuff is very nice.

I have been told that the Yellow Tip is 182gr heavy ball. It was used to extend the effective range in machineguns. It is HOT hot!!
