7.62x54R...7.62X53R...7.62 Russian

I am beginning a hunt for brass cases able to be reloaded. I have found listings for all the above listed cartridges. It is my understanding that 7.62x54R and 7.62 Russian are the exact same cartridge. I also believe that I read that 7.62x53R is also the same, just given a different name by another european country other than Russia. Am I correct? If so, Midaway has Norma 7.62x54R for $72/100 and Lapua 7.62.53R for $48/100. Which should I get?

Either Norma or Lapua should be great.

The Finns call it the 7.62x53R. (Russia's a European country?! What the heck, so's Turkey!)

Erich, I just went back and re-read my post...OOPS! I guess my keyboard failed geography! Either way...Thanks for the info.

I bought the Lapua from Midway and it is some of the finest brass I have ever used. Don't hesitate for a minute to get some, and Lapua has an interesting website describing their ammo and components which have won many International competitions.

Actually, BMiracle, I think you're correct: Russia is usually considered a European country (although Siberia is most of Asia) - at least that's what I was taught in school.

I was just making a cultural slur!

I guess we will just call the 7.62x53/54R Russian/Finnish/Polish/Hungarian/German/Chinese/Bulgarian/
Czechslovakian/Yugoslavian/Romanian, a Euro-Asian cartridge!

Russia is part of Europe...

and Asia. The Ural mountains split Russia almost in half, and they are the dividing line between Asia and Europe. At least that's what they taught me!
