I know this is a stretch but is there anyway to convert a mosin nagant to .357 mag? I'm from Indiana and want to use a mosin to build a deer legal gun. If I can't convert it to .357 are there any indiana deer legal calibers I can convert it to? Also, would it be cheaper to convert the mosin or to just buy a handi rifle?

What's wrong with the 7.62x54r? It's a good caliber and will take many a deer. Is it that the soft point for this round are just not available? You could try online.

for the price of converting to 357, you may as well just buy a ruger 77/357 and be done with it.

you'd need a new extractor claw, new magazine, new barrel, new sights, you'd pretty much end up with a brand new bolt action that wears a 91/30 stock.

Wow, there are some screwed up caliber restrictions in IN, aren't there. Never realized it before.

I think it would be cheaper to buy a rifle in one of the calibers on the list rather than trying to convert a M-N rifle to one of legal calibers.

It is not legal for deer in Indiana. Otherwise I would have just sporterized one instead of the hassle of trying to rechamber one.

Handi-Rifles are fine shooters.

I own one and like it very much,,,
So there is a bit if bias here.

But you said it first,,,
Just buy the Handi-Rifle,,,
It's much cheaper in the long run.

Mine in .357 Magnum is a very nice shooter,,,
A bit over 2 MOA at the 100 yards line.

One thing though,,,
You will need a scope,,,
They come without iron sights.
