7.62 x 39 ammo

I have only had experience with Wolf. It's good cheap practice ammo.

I like tcw hollow points. just as cheap as the rest but they tumble well. Good for hunting within the limits of the caliber.

I have 4 sks's & 2 ak's .Used about every brand over the years.I BUY as cheap as I can,use a homemade chamber brush about every 5 mags.clean gas tube when bolt will not cycle(or acts sluggish.HAVE FUN

For what it's worth, some folks on the AK-47.net seem to think that Barnaul is the best quality, while Wolf is so so.

I've tried Barnaul personally and it seems to be okay. It does not seem to have that peculiar smell and smoke of Wolf.

I use them both regularly and find them to be pretty much equal. I have been using Wolf more due to the lower price. If I had to choose one for long-term storage, Barnaul is better suited in that respect............

I picked up some Brass cased South African ammo a while back at a gun show and it functioned flawlessly. You can usually find it in the shotgun news or other such publications for a real good price.

I've heard that the South African (PMP, I think) brass-cased 7.62x39mm is excellent ammo, particularly in terms of accuracy, compared to Russian ammo.

However, I'm a bit concerned about slam fire with the AK firing pin (no spring).

I suppose that is more of a soft/hard primer issue.

Also, how well does the brass case stand up to the notorious AK extractor?

I havent noticed any brass getting chewed up or anything..I inspected the cases and they seemed fine. I dont reload it because I have seen it as cheap as 2.99 a box :)
