7.62 x 25 surplus?

Should have bought a spam can of this a couple of years ago...
Only surplus I see is from J&G, and at $20 for 70 rounds I'll end up buying the Prvi brass rounds for a few bucks more and start reloading...

Any other more reasonable sources, or is the surplus about dried up?
 
surplus dried up almost immediately following the tokarev craze when people started realizing that they could shoot a centerfire at the price of rimfire ammo.
7.62 tokarev conversions were offered for everything from AR15s to 1911s to Sterling Carbines. a while back I purchased chamber adapters for mosin nagants and enfields to be able to single fire tokarev ammo. but once all these consumer products came out they already flimsy supply of it dried up since importers were not expecting a surge in demand. tokarev ammo started showing up again about 6 months later but at prices comparable to 9mm and the last time I checked it was about neck and neck with 7.62x39 prices.

the tokarev train has sailed sadly enough and I don't think it plans on every returning.
 
If someone were to eliminate Clinton's executive order that banned the import of Chinese small arms and ammo, that would help a lot. I bought a lot of Chinese 7.62x25 at dirt cheap prices before the import ban.
 
I could see another boatload or 2 showing up in the next few years. However, it's not an issue round now so as 001 said, that ship has probably sailed.
 
I still have about 1,000 rounds of the good Norinco ammo, and a butt load of eastern european stuff, to include new S+B and even some non corrosive Greek manufactured hollow point stuff.
 
that sounds like a good idea before reloading components skyrocket as well.

a little off topic but while we are discussing tokarev surplus. I have about 1000 rounds of ammo that is mostly copper washed steel cased ammo with copper jackets. it's dirty as hell, smells horrible when you shoot it 1 in 3 cases ruptures at the shoulder during firing.

just curious where this stuff came from?

There is factory loaded ammunition available for the Tokerev. And cases can be formed from .223 Brass, not a total loss.

The only tool I didn't have was a .302" inside neck reamer and FORSTER PRODUCTS provided that.

Starline brass for less than $18/100, I'm not going to go through the hassle of making it from .223.

Hornady 86 grain .308 RN?

I normally buy RCBS or Hornady dies...but RCBS is $143.00 :eek: and Hornady doesn't make it... Lee has a 3-die set for thirty bucks, but I haven't bought Lee before...anyone used it?
 
they aren't as nice as hornady and they dont have the RCBS brand name but they work, I notice that a lot of the calibers that aren't used a lot like 8x56R tend to have to go with lee as they are the only ones that really make dies for them.

Thanks for the information. Our, man-at-the-gunhow, has a complete set of like new 7.62X25 dies selling for cheap cheap cheap. I'll be watching for him. ;)

There is only a few commercial bullets made for 7.62x25 best imo is hornady witch is actually made for it (well I think its really made for the 7.63 mauser but no real difference)
but there $13 per hundred add powder and primers your up to .17 a round
I took up casting mainly because of the tokerav if you buy the lead a cast bullet is just over a penny each it comes out to about a nickel a round reloading with cast
