7.62 dreams

During a long car ride today, I came up with an idea and thought I would get a few opinions as to how feasible it would be.

How hard would it be to create a single shot, bolt action rifle that can accommodate 7.62x25, 39, and 57 rounds? Is is just a matter of swapping out the bolts, or is it a barrel issue, or a combination of factors?

Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Those rounds all require different barrel chambers to match the shape of the cartridge.
Maybe someone makes adapters to use alternate ammo in rifles, though.

You mention 7.62x57...

Do you mean:

7.62x51 (308 Winchester)
7.62x54R (Mosin-Nagant)
7.62x63 (30-06)

Or something else I'm not aware of?

Chamber adapters have been made for 7.62x54R -> 7.62x25 Tok. Easy to turn on the lathe, provided you have the right chamber reamer.

Yes, I did mean 7.62x54. I did not know that there already were adapters for x54 to x25. That is one step in the right direction. Thanks for all of the input so far.

Here's the first example I could find, from SG:

One hiccup is that the bore diameters for the x39 and x54R can be as large as .312" or .314". To get any accuracy out of a pistol cartridge, it would be better to go with a larger .32 ACP cartridge with its .311" bullet.

That's why you'll see the converters like I listed available and the 7.62x25 to x54R ones rarely, if at all.
