im looking to reload my french mas and shmidt ruben ammo... but i cannot find a confirmed info on thier bullet diameter. anyone know?

I have two K31's and i use 168gr .308 Sierra's.As to the french i cant say,but they have to be interchangeable. When Century converted all of those Mas49's to .308 WIN all they did was re-chamber not re-barrel them.

The French 7.5 is .308 diameter. That's why they can be so easily converted to .308. I have been told that the MAs 49/56 does well with .311 bullets also but I have never tried it myself.

For my 7.5 Swiss reloads I use 40 grains of IMR 3031 with 150 grain .308 bullets. Shoots just as good as the swiss match ammo.

yes both have a .308 bore 7.5 mas brass can be made with 8mm mauser brass 30-06 commercial .270 win .280 rem 7mm mauser .257 roberts and such all can be cut down after sized the longer ones you will have to take a hacksaw to them first.
7.5 swiss can only be made from .284 winchester brass all you have to do is run it through a 7.5 swiss sizing die no triming needed.

It's interesting to know how you can make the brass for both but it isn't really necessary at this point in time. I reload for both and I bought new brass for both from Graf's.

To be absolutely technical & picky, the 7.5x54 MAS specs actually call for a bullet diameter of .3075". So, for all intents & purposes it uses .308" diameter projectiles. In my MAS 36/51 I've been using Mil-Surp 150gn FMJ, & Winchester 147gn FMJ/BT with decent results.
