7-Eleven Clerk Fired For Foiling Robbery

Antonio Feliciano, a 7-Eleven employee who foiled a robbery by wrestling a sawed-off rifle from a would-be assailant, was fired for breaking the store's rule on robberies that says: Just hand over the cash.

Feliciano said the company rule wasn't his primary concern when he grabbed the armed assailant.

"I just wanted to be sure that I was coming home that night," he said.

Company officials said they fired Feliciano on Monday to emphasize the policy.

"No asset in a 7-Eleven store is worth defending with an employee's life," officials said in a statement. "There have been many situations at both 7-Eleven and other retail stores around the county where an employee tried to be a hero, but that effort failed. All too frequently, these
employees were seriously injured or worse."

The alleged attacker, Glenda Renee Hull, 35, was charged with armed robbery and brandishing a firearm. Authorities said she had taken more than $150 and pointed a rifle at an employee on July 14 when Feliciano wrestled her down and held her until sheriff's deputies arrived.

Its hard to judge... I like the stores policy on the surface... a few bucks and some beef jerky just isn't worth it.
But - if that perticular situation was one where the employee felt her life was in danger and had to act - then so be it.
Violation of policy my arse.

Guess employes lives are not considered assets.I worked at a Circle K years ago(Same as 7-11)on graveyards.Had a drunk try to come behind the counter to try and get me one night.Talked my way out of it but the next night I was carrying a 38.Totaly against policy but screw them. The wouln't even put in security cameras because they said it lead to violence.I lasted about 6 weeks and found a job that didn't include being a hired target.
Had a friend that worked at one a couple of years ago.Now he was a ex DOC and stands about 6 ft 4 inches tall at about 300 lbs.Worked with local police as BG for there practice at handling people.Well 6 bangers jumped him and beat the crap out of him.I wouldn't sugest anyone work for outfits like that unless they could carry. At least on graveyard shifts.Ever wonder why they are called graveyard shifts???

If I was that employee, I would get a real good attorney and sue 7-11 for a lifetime of lost wages. :D

Personally, I don't see why those 7-11 employees don't just give up their lives for the company?:rolleyes.: After all in the SoCal area we have had two separate shootings where the employees died..and they were 7-11 employees. This happened about two weeks apart.

Are you sure there isn't some kind of written or unwritten policy where the employee signs away his right to defend him/herself whenever a robber appears? :mad

I have lectured all my nephews and nieces, this is why it is not a good idea to work for or patronize places that doesn't back employees who would defend themselves. This is what the sheeples of the world want us to do...lay down our arms and ...die!

As the sarge in my cousin's unit said in Korea when my cousin (a then new 2nd LT.)ordered a night river crossing when it hadn't been surveyed..."You first,,sir!" :D

Now just how is this possible? There is a sign on the door that says there is not more than $24 in the register at all times. They drop any more than that into a safe that cannot be open by the regular employees. What is the deal there eh?

I have $50 right here to bet that somewhere in 7-11's corporate literature you will find a statement that "our employees are our most important asset". So no asset in the store is worth protecting, huh? Must be comforting to know your employer considers you expendable.

A few miles from my house (Virginia) three morons rushed a 7-11. One cased the place and went outside to start the getaway car. The other two then burst inside, took a few dollars, and shot the two women cashiers for absolutely no reason. On the video tape there was no evidence that either woman was doing anything but complying with the robbers. One was shot in the small of the back as she lay on the floor and the other in the shoulder.
7-11's solution to the problem of graveyard shift robberies seems to be that they have nice cameras so that your friends and family get to watch you murdered on the evening news.

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998

Remember, the SOUTHLAND CORPORATION, owners of 7-11, has never been a friend of gun owners. NEVER They have been big donors to the anti-gun terrorists such as HCI.

Despite all the attention, Feliciano is still without a job. He's had some offers, but none has met his need to work nights.

Let's hope his situation changes, with all the exposure.

Update:

MARTINSBURG - A 7-Eleven clerk recently fired for an act of heroism is now basking in the national spotlight.

Antonio Feliciano, a 27-year-old father of two, was fired Monday after foiling an armed robbery two weeks ago.

He grabbed a sawed-off rifle from a woman trying to rob the Martinsburg-area convenience store and held the would-be robber down until police arrived.

Feliciano said he just wanted to make sure he'd be able to go home to his family.

Officials from 7-Eleven said Feliciano did not follow the company's non-confrontation policy.

Since word of the decision spread, Feliciano has had calls from the BBC, the Washington Times, CBS News Radio and CBS's "Early Show.'' Representatives from the "Montel Williams Show'' and "Sally Jesse Raphael'' have also expressed interest in him.

"I'm not an American hero,'' he said. "I'm just a plain man who loves his family. There's nothing special about me.''
