Whats a 686-2 with a 3inch barrel, wooden factory grips, nice shape and pretty tight worth in the real world? Saw one today, shop wanted $399.00.I'm curious.

I gave $375 more mine a few years ago. It has a 4" barrell and had less than 100 rounds through it. A couple of shooting buds picked up nice tight police trade ins for around 300 a few years back. I have noticed the price has went up on these though. $399 isn't rape and is probably around market value. IMHO the 686 is one of the best revolvers on the market as far as value goes.

For a used one I wouldn't pay more than $300.00 for it. I bought a brand new one, which is a 686-5 just three years ago for $399.00.

If the gun does in fact have a 3" barrel and not the standard 2 1/2" then it would go for a premium. I've seen them on Gunsamerica go for well over $400, believe they were a special run for the customs service.

I bought one a month or so ago on GunBroker.com for $285 (686-4, 6") plus $15 in shipping. (98%)

Have seen a few recently at or around same price tag.

FWIW ...

686-2 is 1987(2 being hammer parts upgrade). There were several standard 3" runs as well as the Custom Service CCS-1 3".
Like everyone else said, 3" commands a premium.

Just gave $400 for a 686-6 4". Like new condition. I had passed on some police trade-ins at $300. They were pretty loose.
