68 grain Hornady Match

I have a 20" Windham Weaponry barrel, 8 twist. I've been shooting 55 grain bullets out of it, mostly V-Max. It's a fair shooter but like the powder charge near the bottom with CFE 223 and kind of in the middle with Varget. I haven't exactly figured out which primer it likes, Federal, Winchester or CCI #41 but it seems that it likes the #41's with the lighter charge.

Anyway, I wanted to load a heavier bullet so I got some Hornady 68's. Two powders I have a large amount of are WW748 and IMR 4064. How would you guess those would work?

Some one has a listing of twist to bullet stabilizing chart. That will help you find the weight of bullet that should stabilize in your rifle. Then buy one Lb. bottles of powders to try.

You have a very good question.

My varmint AR is a Stag 6h which has a 24" 1/8 twist. Can't speak for the 68 grain Hornadys but with 69 gn Sierra HPBT's I get my best accuracy with Ramshot Tac. Varget and CFE both come in a close second.

I shoot a lot of 69 grain Sierras. I use three powders......Reloader 15 at 25 grains for the 69s (my go to powder for all bullets up to 77 grains.), IMR 4895 at 24 grains for the 69s, Accurate 2460 at 24 grains also.
They work.

I like IMR4064, I haven't found a cartridge yet where it didn't produce very good accuracy. Win748 is a better choice if you are loading through a progressive though.

I'd say straight up accuracy under 500yds IMR 4064 is pretty good but I think they both will work well . I say under 500yds because 4064 does not produce the velocities of other powders and your almost always compressed . I have a 25gr 4064 load pushing 69gr smk that's really accurate but also high on pressure .

Your 1-8 twist is perfect for that weight maybe even a touch to faster then needed but will work very well .
