*&* 629 3"

Just went out and fired off some of my full house .44 mag reloads in my "new" 629 snub. First round the gun nearly jumped out of my hand. After that no problem; might need rubber grips, though.

Good accuracy for a short barrel (for me) - 3" at 25 feet.

Guess I'm a recoil junkie! :D

Recoil is a must for us ol coots, how else would we know it went off?

Sam....darn, this road used to go through, I think...

A friend of mine with an identical gun had to switch to Pachmayr grips that covered the backstrap before we could really handle the full-power loads. (240gr Remington JHP over 24.0 grains of Winchester 296 powder)

Personally, I will opt for a 6" barrel if I get a .44 Magnum!

My dear, old, gray haired, saintly mother bought one of these some eight years ago and loves it. I was surprised the first time I shoot it at the minimum recoil. It must be the grip design but it is more comfortable, to me at least, to shoot than my four inch model 29's. Accuaracy was very good to.
Congradulations on a great gun. I just wish I could find a blue model 29 Lew Horton to complete my collection.

That is the exact load I was shooting. I use it primarily in my 6" 629, wanted to see how it shot out of the short barrel for when I am rifle hunting and carry the short one for backup. I like the .44 mag. Very versatile in all it's loadings.

I agree - the grip does distribute the recoil well over the whole palm, so it is not that punishing. Muzzle flip is another story!
