622 vs MKII Target

Had a great time with my brother at the pistol range yesterday. He's a rimfire guy and I was excited to show off my slowly growing centerfire collection and new Peltor Tac 6 electronic muffs.

His standard issue .22cal S&W 622 is every bit as accurate as my heavy bbl .22cal Ruger MKII Target pistol! What in the world is going on?! A couple of thoughts on my end: (1) I'm only that good regardless of the tool (2) the 622 is a very accurate pistol (3) my Ruger has lost a step. I prefer my Ruger, but could easily be converted to his 622. Any comments?!

The Tac 6 muffs are simply amazing. How long should I expect the batteries last? Regardless, if they do go out on me while shooting, they'll just act as regular muffs.

Greetings,

I own a S&W 422 and it is a real nice little gun. Light, accurate and fun to shoot. I don't think it's quite as accurate as my Ruger 6-7/8" Gov model though.

If you scope your Gov. model, you can see what it is really capable of.
Good luck.

I've never shot the Smith 22 autos, but they would be hard-pressed to beat the MKII Target or Gov't....Of course, I may be biased....

The Ruger is a very accurate pistol but it's not something you're going to find at the olympics. It's not shocking that another target pistol is as accurate.

The real difference between that S&W and the Ruger is that the Ruger is going to run perfectly no matter how much you feed it. It's a tank. Not so with the Smith.

On the other hand

I own both, and the Smith 422/622/2206 is the more reliable, out of the box. My gunsmith told me it has to do with the magazine, which is designed better than the Ruger mags. It presents the bullet into the feed ramp at a better angle. IMHO. Model 41 uses the same mags.

On the other hand, S&W has recently redesigned those mags so that they cannot be disassembled for cleaning, servicing or spring replacement. This is incomprehensible to me. Guess they sell more mags that way, but no more to me. Anyone got any old ones to sell?

On the other hand, again, the Ruger has fewer tiny parts and more metal overall, and since I replaced the stock extractor with one from Volquartsen, it feeds much more reliably.

Regards.
