617 & 686: Brothers in Arms

Well, I have at last taken the plunge into the digital photography world. I am still figuring out how to use this thing. Here is a reasonable first night's shot of my revolvers - the 617 (in foreground) and his big brother, the 686P behind:

Well, I guess I have to show off as well. :D

My 617 is actually a tad heavier then the 686 despite the nonfluted cylinder.
Other differences (except the difference between the K and L frame) is the wide (but smooth) trigger on the 617, and target hammer on it as well, plus the silly, but so far harmless, little lock on the 617.

It's the Miculek grips and I really liked them on the squareframe 686 that I've had the longest. I got the grips for the .22 before I got the revolver itself, but for some reason they didn't work quite as good as the ones on the 686. But after a little work on the area where the middle finger grips they too now feels good.

For me these grips moves around less in my hand, strange as it may sound. I can shoot SA single handedly without the revolver ending up in a strange grip, and DA also works good (though I don't practise anywhere near enough).

Very Nice

You have some very nice revolvers and I'd say your pretty good at taking pics considering you say you are new to it.
Personaly I like the looks of wood grips but prefer the shooting of my firearms with the rubber type grips.
I know I really like my Stainless SW686 with the 8 3/8 in barrell.

Hi mark8252 - thanks for the kind words. :) How long have you had the 8&3/8" 686?

I am actually thinking about getting a 6". When I rented the two of them at once, I actually liked the 6" better than the 4", but bought the 4" because I figured I might want to carry... may wind up back at the 6" anyway. What do you use your 8&3/8" for?

Best,
Caleb
