6 shot 627 for $469.00

I have a chance to buy a very nice 627-0 six shooter with either hogue grips or factory wood (finger grooves and looks like birch or maple.) for less than $500.00 out the door....
It has simply the sweetest SA trigger I have ever felt on a handgun. Better than my 586 or 657 . A lot better.
It appears to be in very solid condition, no scratches, not new, but still veery nice.
I'm thinking pretty hard about putting it on layaway for a christmas present to ME!
I looked at a 8x performance center 627, and this six shooter puts it to shame in fit, finish, and trigger feel.
Does 500 bucks sound ok?

Well, MY question is...is it from the FIRST run of 627's in 1989 or so--that'd have a hammer-mounted firing pin--or is it from one of the subsequent "re-issues"--those would have the frame-mounted FP...IF it's a first-run gun, I'd suggest grabbing it up...if it's a later gun w/the frame-mounted FP, the price seems a little high for a used gun...FWIW....mikey357

Okay, I was posting a response to your ORIGINAL post when YOU posted your "Did I mention..." post...I BELIEVE that ONLY the "First-run" 627's have the checkered topstrap...that being the case, GO FOR IT!!!...OR, tell ME where it is....mikey357

Firing pin on the hammer...
Also, the trigger and hammer don't look case hardened like my other s&w's.
They're shiny.

...no, not a "PC" gun, BUT a "Special Edition" of 4,500 made during 1989...roll-marked "Model of 1989", UNfluted cylinder, should have flash-chromed (silver-colored) trigger and hammer...barrel length was five and a HALF inches, with a full-underlug...sound right???....mikey357

Sounds like the gun I saw.
Come to think of it, there was a rollmark saying something to that effect...
I guess I'll be back in a little while, I gotta make a quick trip to the gun store...

Buy it,
RIGHT NOW.
That's a preposterous price for such a piece, I see them listed on the internet gun trading sites at $800+

Broke into my stash and put it on lay-away.
Guess I'll pick it up tomorrow, before they change their mind.
Then, wednesday, the PMC truck is in my town, look to spend $500.00 there. (Docter sight, mount, and ammo at special prices.)
Thursday, my CZ firepoint will come in, there's another $500.00
Money IS going out of style, isn't it?
At least at my place...

Picked it up today.
Just as pretty as I remember it.
Even the rear sight bracket that sits atop the top strap is checkered.
The rollmark says:
"S. & W. 357 MAGNUM"
"MODEL OF 1989"

There's a number inside the crane that isn't a model or serial number, could it be the production run#??
Anyway, it's 462
I'm off to the range...

I guess I'm off to get a digicam.
Be back in a little while.
Didn't shoot it tonight, no ammo.
I'm gonna solve that little problem tonight... :) :)

Had some pics up, but remote linking is verboden at freeservers.
Anybody know a free place I can host pics from??
I guess here's my index page....

Shot it today.
Wow is it tight!!
I really don't think it had anything but .38 spl wadcutters through it.
I shot my 586 6", and my handloads seemed a little hot, but showed minimal pressure signs, and the cases fell out by gravity.
I used 12.5 grains blue dot with 125 XTP, CCI magnum primers, rem cases.
I loaded one, and shot 1.
It was nice, seemed a little hotter, but nice.
Extraction was nice, no pressure signs.
I loaded 6, fired 6.
Extraction was sticky, mininal pressure signs.
I loaded 6 more, fired 6.
These seemed the same, but extraction was very sticky.
I thought to myself, gotta take it home and clean it.
Now I can't close the cylinder.
Gonna clean it and check it for dirt under the extractor, but I couldn't see any in my interior light of my car.
Guess we're gonna find out in a minute!

I was cleaning it, and the whole crane assy. fell out.
It looked fairly clean, and the factory sharp edges are still there.
The hammer area shows 'idiot marks' where some idiot took it apart previously.
I think I'll take the side plate off, and see what I can see.
Nope. I'm bringing it back to get it fixed...
It shot well, but I got a 30 day warranty, so I might as well use it...
