6" Gp100

Been examining some loads from CorBon which brought me around to my full-gorilla target revolver. This thing was putting out the 110 jhps at 1725 fps and the 125s at 1526. The 125s were only 13 fps slower out of my 4" gun and even did 1357 from a 2 and a quarter inch barrel SP101.

I suppose the usual 1450 fps 125 .357s usually average is about as good, but there's something neat about knowing the bullet is busting 1500. Recoil so so mild that off-hand shooting is a pleasure. Even the 180 bonded core soft points at 1370 wern't distracting out of this one. Kicked like perdition out of the SP101 though.

I notice your GP 100 doesn't have the full length underlug.

I like the looks of that model, and I bet it balances better than the full underlug 6" GP 100--i.e. it is less muzzle heavy.

I'm considering a 6" (no- full length underlug) GP 100 myself.

I've already got a couple 4" GP 100s.

Just out of curiosity, how many prefer the full underlugged 6" GP 100, and how many prefer the non-full length underlugged 6" GP 100, and why did you make that choice?

I had one of these before and stupidly traded it away. When I went to get this one, I learned some things. The LM Burney distributorship told me that almost everybody wants the full underlug because you get more metal for your money.

As a consequence, they didn't have any in stock and Ruger didn't have any either. They said they would be making up a batch pretty soon and I went like " oh sure." but sure enough, in a couple of weeks, Burney got my gun and nine more just like it that he didn't want.

I like the way it looks and the way it hangs. It's three ounces lighter than the full lug but still plenty muzzle heavy for steadiness and recoil is nill. this one has been fitted with 10 lb wolff trigger return spring and the almost full strength main spring.

Please help clarify one thing for me.

The distributors don't have the no-full length under-lugged 6" GP 100 because the full underlugged GP 100 is more popular (thus, they order very few of the less popular no-full length underlug 6"). Or the dealers don't have the full underlugged GP 100 because the full underlugged GP 100 is more popular, and thus sells out quickly?

The first. Since not as many people want them, comparatively few are made. Burney has a retail store and keeps the 4" full lugged and the 6" full lug under the counter all the time. these seem to be the most popular by far. When I wanted a 6" they tried to order one from ruger but no soap. Fortunately, there is some demand for them as they tooled up and made a batch. I'd kind of like a short lug 4" with adjustible sights but apparently no body else does.

Want to see one?

Ok, so it's not a REAL 5" GP100 (Dave Clements has made one though) this is my Paint Shop Pro Gunsmithed 5" GP100.

Someday I'll have one made up....someday...

I suppose a gunsmith can always cut some off a 6" GP 100 and recrown it. Would likely cost a lot though. :(

As I recall the rough quote I got for doing that job was $200-250. So really you could get a used 6" GP100 and have that done and still have it cost less than an Anaconda, and only a bit more than some S&W's go for.

Have you got a Website? I'd actually like to have my 4 inch made into a 3 inch. You can not get adjustable sights on a 3 inch model and after a long and frustrating quest I gave up on getting adjustable sights put on the 3 inch.
