6,8mm spc in a bolt action carbine

I know the cartridge was originally designed for semi auto rifles but wouldnt it be great for light bolt action scout carbine too?
I have a cz527 carbine in 7,62x39 and it has a pretty big problem with larger distances (with factory ammo and self loaded) .223 just doesnt pack enough punch for me.
Do you think the 6,8mm spc would be accurate at 300+ yards?

I've got a Remington 700 police in 6.8SPC with and it has a 26" barrel. My handload using a 90gr projectile get's about 2850fps. The 90gr is the lightest projectile you'll find for the SPC.

I don't know how much velocity you'd lose in a carbine length barrel but out to 300m I would imagine maybe the 223 but definately the 22-250 would probably be a flatter shooting cartridge therefore making hitting targets at 300m easier with less hold over.

However my rifle easily shoots sub MOA with groups under an inch at 200m so with a decent rifle i think that the accuracy out to 300m is possible but I'm not sure how much punch it will have when it gets there. I could be wrong though. That's just my experience.

6.5 Grendel might also work. It and 7.62x39 are based on the same case (I think. Looks that way to me.) so it wouldn't be too much re-engineering to create one based on the 7.62x39 design. It would be a little flatter than the 7.62x39's trajectory, and it is designed to retain energy, so you might get your range that way. This is all a SWAG (scientific wild A$$ guess) though; I am not a rifle maker or ballistics expert.

Yeah i agree 6.5 Grendel would be a good cartridge to use. I think savage already chambers a sporter rifle in it so all you'd have to do is trim the barrel to your desired length and you're set.

How about a Remington Model Seven in .260 Rem?

Light, short, handy, packs a good punch for anything in the Lower 48 States within 350-400 yards...

And, you can actually find hunting ammo in .260 Rem, something I don't think is readily available in 6.8 SPC...

Kudos on the Model 7. I have mine in .308, but I could see a good little lead launcher borne of a Model 7 and either .260 or 7mm-08.

i have a encore in 6.8 spc with 24" barrel and it shoots great out to 300 but drops a lot after that :D

the 6.5s would be better for long range work me i like the 6.5 creedmoor

Remington used to make their 700P LTR in 6.8SPC with a 20'' fluted barrel. Dead nuts accurate. Unfortunately I think they stopped cambering it in 6.8SPC

I wish I kept mine.:o

Actually i was wrong Savage don't chamber a bolt action in 6.5 Grendel but they do chamber one in 6.5 Creedmore I got myseld mixed up.

Anyway I read an article recently about that particular savage and it had a
20" barrel and the author found that form a 28" barrel to 20" barrel it lost about 100fps (as far as i can remember) total which is pretty good.

Maybe it would still be quite potent in a carbine length barrel guess it depends how short you want the barrel to be. I'll see if I can find the article and give more specifics.
