6.5x68 Action

I'm looking at a barreled Pre-64 Winchester action. What are my options for a build? Ammo seems not too readily available and what can. E acquired is not cheap. Will be primarily hunting rifle so using limited number of rounds is not an issue as it would be for a range gun. Any thoughts appreciated.

For a hunting rifle you are better served if you can buy ammo at most places that sell ammo and guns. If your ammo is misplaced or damaged you don't want it to ruin your hunting trip.
That being said you are loading your own and have the ability to carry extra ammo in various places so the chances are good that you could continue the hunt.
Without knowing what you are hunting and where, I would fall back on the standard cartridges like 243, 308, 7mm Mauser, 3006, and maybe one or two of the popular magnums.

Advice from the guy who likes 257 Roberts and 358 Winchester

68mm is 5mm (qbout .200") longer than a 30-06. It is not really that big of a deal, a pre-64 Model 70 30-06 magazine is probably long enough, if not a 300 H&H mag box will work.

I used a P-14 action to build a 6.5X68.I did it because I had a number of the actions and and was looking for something different. It's about like a .264 Win Mag.RWS should still make brass and RCBS has the dies.
