6.5x55 training rounds with wooden bullets.

I see these are dirt cheap some places... I understand they were meant to be used in conjunction with a special wooden-bullet shredding adapter fixed to the muzzle.

What else can they be used for?
Has anyone actually fired these without the adapter attached, and if so, what were the results (chronographed velocity, accuracy, ect).

I think they would make for a fun "what-the-heck-ever" short range plinking round.

I don't think that the wooden bullets maintain enough structural integrity upon firing to be of any use.

However, the Swedes did make some plinking/practice ammo which was loaded with a 6 grain (IIRC) bullet. You can still find some now and then. It's usually pretty cheap.

If you find some check it carefully--I've heard it's corrosive.
