5R cutrifling bb.

gentleman,

looking and leaning towards the 5R cut rifling barrel for my next rifle build. I first off talked with Boots Obermeyer and the caliber/barrel I am of mind is not going to happen in the near future-down the road - yes but not now. Called Mike Rock and likewise with him no tooling although he has advertised on his website the 9.3 in limited numbers.

last search was Border barrels "over the pond", I am certain I came across a supposed distributor here in the U.S. - OKWEBER. Without having to do the paper work to get a barrel from Scotland and just darn curious how hard is it to get a barrel of this make? They offer the 9.3 barrel blank.

Has any one here dealt with this distributor? Anywhere else in the U.S. to get this barrel. I have some time as there is no hurry.

thanks,

Griz, you might look at Brougton barrels in WI also. He does the 5R type. Hook highly recommended them.

I have one being turned by Barnett now - anxious to get it installed on a m14.

Why are all these top makers in Wisconsin - is it the cheese or beer? Or nothing better to do in the long winter!! Obermeyer, Broughton, Kreiger are all up there I think!

Dear Sir:
If you've got a good 9.3 bbl. you have one of the best in my opinion.
I've built a 9.3X62 and a 9.3X64.
The 9.3X62 will be much easier to obtain brass for - you can reform 06 brass which will work fine.
The 9.3X64 is harder to use in a 98 Mauser action. Bolt face needs enlarged and the magazine recess will need some lengthening. also some minor feed rail work but this is simple.
The 9.3X62 is good for the "big five" in Africa, a good large bear cartridge. It is ideal for deer and boar, etc! It doesn't ruin much meat even on deer. I kiterally love mine.
It was brought out around 1905 by Bock and it is a suprising modern case design and loads well with canister poders.
The 9.3X62 will work best for you.
Happy shooting!
Recoil in a proper stock is like the 06, or 308.

Dave,
I must have overlooked Broughton when I was at there site. Yes lots of fine barrel makers in Wisc. I'll take another look. thanks.

Harry,
The 9.3 x 64 is way overdo for recognition. Been around for nigh onto 100yrs. and don't think Ruger really made anything better than what Wilhelm had brought to the table along time ago.
I have my 1909 Arg. over at Satterlee Arms waiting pretty much for a barrel. Yes, brass is limited but in relatively good supply either over at Huntingtons or Natchez that I know of.
I considered the 62 Mauser but have two .338-06's that will suffice in killing power as the 62-or close.
If for some reason the brass in the brenneke chambering gets really scarce I will just have the barrel rechambered in the .366/375Ruger--should prove to be quite the cartridge for my kind of hunting here in the interior of Ak.
You know it seems like I should almost reconsider or it happened a couple of times thus far as I go about mentally building this rifle. Even thought of having him chamber the 1909 in a rare but does happen standard 1909 Mauser action - 375HH but it seems brass is all backordered-what is up?
Oh well, something will come about.

Thanks fellas,
