I just took possession of a 586 L-comp and have a question about the finish. The S&W website refers to it as "blued" but it doesn't look like any blue I'm familiar with. It looks more like a satin black, almost like powdercoat but dimensionally thinner. What is it?
I bought it used and it has several non-standard curiosities.
#1 - The front sight has been changed to a SDM gold bead. Given the online criticisms of the invisible nightsight vial, I'm not surprised.
#2 - The stocks were Altamont rosewood but in the small round-butt configuration, not the oversized grips I see everywhere else. I've already replaced them with the correct Hogue bantam grips.
#3 - Tyler T grip. Didn't fit very well and was replaced with Hogues already mentioned.
The price was right so I went ahead and bought it, knowing that nothing was irreversible and I've got a set of Meprolight sights on the way. I'll post up a pic when I get the new sights on. FWIW - the smudges wiped off with an oily rag.
