Thought I would show you all how nice my 581 turned out. Touched up the holster wear on my 581 with the birchwood casy Presto instant touch-up....Also added new pachmayr grips. Thought she turned out pretty good. Still may send it back to S&W for a re-blue job.....Saving up funds now....

I almost bought a 581 about 2 years ago.

I just couldn't get past the over/under shotgun barrel like appearance, so I let it slide.

Probably a stupid choice given that it was only $350 or so.

You should be saying 68444, never heard of a 681!

is that the same as a 6657254?

Ohhhh, after spending time it'e a 681 S&W .357! My bad!:o

Nice looking evolver, never seen a revolver I never liked, even though I don't know what is a 665785444 model is.:D

Has O.C.S. 62 stamped on the frame just above the trigger guard on the left side. Does anyone what this means?

No it's not.

It's a 581, which has a carbon steel frame with a blued finish.

A 681 is a stainless steel frame.

"You could also get a Model 581 in nickel."

But the one shown isn't that, now is it?

So I saw absolutely no reason to bring it up.

Besides, nickel is shiney and soulless, just like soulless steel.

Harumph.

My understanding, the 581 is the same gun as the 686 but no adjustable sights. The 681 is the stainless version of the 581.

I would shoot at least ten thousand rounds (cast reloads) before I sent I back to the factory. Give them a GOOD reason to refinish it.

Well used guns are not ugly guns. Let it develop some character.

That is probably what I will end up doing Jay. She looks pretty good now, I think. Boy she's a shooter too. Do not know where my aunt's husband got it but it seems it served as a law officers side arm. It's got stamped on the left side of frame O.C.S. 62. What ever that means.
