.58 Rifle Barrel Question

I was just given a .58 rifle barrel that I need help identifying. It's 32" long + 1.25 bolster type breech and a 2" tang. The only markings on it are the letters NAC on the left side of the breech. There is a tapped hole 2.25" foward of the breech for the rear sight which is missing. It also is in need of a nipple and cleanout screw. I would like to build a rifle out of this barrel but I need to know what stock and lock go with it. Can anyone help me out? Thanks,

Ned Christy

Nuclear Regulatory Commission? Probably not.:)

I don't think there IS a lock and stock that go, specifically, with your barrel. I think you have a barrel to which you mate and hand fit both.

The location of the nipple hole might require a particular type of lock, there are those where the tumbler and the like were at the front or rear of the lock plate.

Study some pics of BP percussion, or even flint rifles, and see the locations of the lock's parts.

I'm sure there are sites devoted to building ML rifles that can give you the dimensions you need. Schematics, even.

Cheers,

George
