550b/550c difference?

My current copy of the Blue Press came today and I noticed that there is no longer any listing for the 550b press. It seems to have been replaced by a press listed as the 550c. However, to my old eyes they are the same. What is the difference compared to the old 550b?

The Dillon web site says the 550C is a significant upgrade. "The upper link arm pivot points are now threaded in place, and have a grease groove around the pin that connects with a lube hole on the end of the pin. You can use a needle fitting on a grease gun to lubricate the upper pivot pins now".

It also looks like you don't get a whole conversion kit with the purchase of the press like you used to get. They only mention a shellplate and it is an extra charge. The Blue Press ad still mentions the conversion kit, though.

Per Dillons website:

The Dillon RL550C is the most versatile reloading machine in the Dillon Precision Products line. It will accommodate the widest variety of cartridges from 32 ACP up to 338 Lapua, 416 Rigby, and 460 Weatherby.

The "C" designation indicates a significant design change. The upper link arm pivot pins are now threaded in place, and have a grease groove around the pin that connects with a lube hole on the end of the pin. You can use a needle fitting on a grease gun to lubricate the upper pivot pins now.

Seems like so much about nothing...I drilled out all the oil holes on my 20-some year old Dillon 550b years ago, threaded and installed standard grease zerks. There is no grease grooves on my pins, but the grease oozes out around the pins when I pump grease into the zerks so it seems it is not needed.

Thanks for the information.

The C doesn't do anything that the B won't. Threaded pivots but now less likely for people to get confused between "BL" and "C" vs "BL" and "B".

A "confused" mind says NO. The old "b" will do nicely for my few remaining years of Lifetime, no B/S, warranty. I would like to see a "left-handed" model.
