The Bob Stewart Legal Defense Fund.

As many of you know, the BATF raided the shop of .50 BMG manufacturer Bob Stewart of Maadi-Griffin in Mesa, Arizona.
www.maadigriffin.com

We have been arranging things to pay for his legal fees for some time.

The .50 BMG raffle tickets are now made and in my hot little hands for the Model 89 Kit which can be seen at www.maadigriffin.com . The kit gun being donated to the raffle is the same as on the web page with one small difference. The one we have is FULLY stainless steel, not stainless and
forgings.

Here are some details:

100% Stainless Steel
36.5" Barrel
43" overall length
25.5 lbs.
Single shot
.50 cal kit

I have 600 total tickets. 500 of them numbered from 1001 -1600 and another 100 unnumbered for some reason. They were printed at no cost by a printer who happens to by a Class 3 dealer. Ya get what ya pay for.

The raffle is scheduled for drawing on October 28th but it can be held sooner if all tickets are sold.

They read as follows:
-------------------------------------------
The Maadi-Griffin Defense Fund

This is the mail box of the Maricopa Libertarian Party County Chair or facsimile thereof.

Every week we will check on the mail for raffle ticket purchases. Your name will be logged and you will be mailed ticket stubs (the pretty part).

Even if you lose your stub, if your name is drawn, we will be able to contact you.

Remember, the maximum number of tickets sold will be 600. This means that even if you don't win the rifle, there's a pretty good chance that your buddy will. ;)

Rick,

While I am interested, I don't know anythng about this case, and when I went to the web site to get info on the raid, it just led me in a loop back to the homepage, i.e., no info was available. Without knowing the particulars of this case, and why he is under investigation by the BATF, I can't with good conscience support him. Now, OTOH, if you direct me to an account of what happened and why, and Mr. Stewart's side of the story, I might be willing to reconsider.

I have made several posts regarding the BATF raid in this forum. Does TFL have search function? You can also call him up at the number on the web page. He is probably at the gunshow so evening would be better. When I called him up he had me on the phone for about an hour. ;)

Anyway, the gist. Bob Stewart, through his wife, is a licensed class (whatever) manufacturer. He has been making .50 BMG rifles for ten years.

Bob's troubles began independent of him. In Utah another manufacturer (actually two guys) was indicted on receiving stolen property. The feds came and told the two that they would go easy on them if they "went to work" for them and would implicate others.

The manufacturers staring at then years in prison and tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees agreed. I do not know if these two were set up in the same way they were asked to set up others.

One of the people they went to to set up was Bob Stewart. They sent him a Class3 "kit" and asked him to do some work on it. Bob is allowed both to work on Class3 and even manufacture up to (I think) 5 or 6 proofs of class 3s to present to military or LEO buyers.

Nevertheless, he was busted by the feds. They told Bob the same thing. Cop a plea and work for us and we will let you go with six months unsupervised probation. Bob thought it over...

His main income was as a school teacher. His options, ten years in prison and $100,000 in legal fees versus six months on unsupervised probation. That part was cool, he refused, however, to set people up. Remember, Randy Weaver was set up in the same way and asked to set others up. Four members of his family were shot, two killed. This was just a year or so earlier. It was fresh in Bob's mind.

He went to trial, plead guilty...and was rewarded with two years behind bars (state court, I guess).

At this point his wife took over. They have delivered 3,000 .50 BMG rifle kits (all quite legal) and the feds were pissed off. Everyone knows that the .50BMG is on the fed's hit list.

One day the feds came to his house for a "chat". Soon he found himself in cuffs (wife too) for a few hours as the feds searched his house. The feds were "escorted" by a female Mesa Police officer. Bob tried to talked to her to see what the warrant was all about. She refused him the right to see the warrant.

The feds took equipment, parts, and, what they REALLY wanted, the 3,000-name list of his BMG customers. Are you guys catching on yet?

I spoke with Bob last week. He said they were given a list of items of evidence. There is no search warrant on the list.

It gets better. Three years after Bob was out, the state of Utah restored all of Bob's rights, including the RKBA. The feds neglected to research that.

I can't go into all the details but it appears that Bob's attorney wants to go after a civil suit on both the feds and the Mesa Police Department (who earlier beat up the 1996 Libertarian candidate for US Senate because he turned his back on them). He was a friend of the attorney, you see.

Perhaps I should re-name the Defense Fund Raffle to the Maadi-Griffin Legal OFFENSIVE Fund?

Rick

PS, at Bob's recent hearing in federal court, the judge ignored the government lawyers' pleas and released Bob into the community citing that he was not a threat. The judge also said Bob could continue with his business.

ok...read enough. I can't do a hell of a lot. I'm legally blind with diabetes and nerve damage in my hands anf feet as well as deaf. I WILL however get some money together to help this guy out. I may have to skip on the TFL shirt and hat to do it but so be it. I get a check from some work I do for my dad next Friday. Will send some sort of donation by Monday.

Keep him and the rest of us in prayers.

[[and, no, I'm not on welfare or anything else. I've been fighting with SocSec for 10 years on this crap. You can read more here: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/DisbHelp/petition.html

Santanta,

I signed your petition. Thanks for being one of the people who are willing to fight.

I'm not sure what you mean. The PayPal notification goes to my e-mail address automatically. I do need your e-mail address (along with mailing address) so that I can e-mail a confirmatory "hidey-ho" and mail your .50BMG raffle stubs to your humble abode.

The PayPal account works since I have already received payment from others wanting tickets.

Rick

RickD, I guess those other folks are smarter than me. When I go to email money to someone,
an email address is required. If I enter your email addy, a message comes up that you're addy is not registered. Soooo.....?

Rick,

One question - is the BMG rifle capable of firing? I don't want to take delivery of a rifle that I would have to illegally convert to make it fire?

RKBA needs to get their secure site membership page working. I tried a fair part of the day yeaterday trying to get a "membership" started, but was repeatedly kicked back a page that said, "Please wait 5 minutes, and try again". This was to be a kink into the raffle for the 50BMG.

I tried for several hours, to no avail.
So, I gave up...

Best Regards,
Don

Oh crap. That is an old e-mail.

The boys over at www.glocktalk.com clued me that the e-mail address to be entered is indeed hiker_biker@hotmail.com

>One question - is the BMG rifle capable of firing?

Nope. It is a 70% completed kit. Anything 80% or less is considered a kit. It will not fire unless some chunks of metal are machined down. It is perfectly legal as the judge allowed him to continue his biz over the BATF objections. Maadi-Griffin has only delivered 3,000 of these guns, so, I figure they know what they are doing...the BATF on the other hand likes to make things up as they go along. With that in mind, my Ishapore Enfield might not pass the Nazi "sporting purposes" test one day.

>I don't want to take delivery of a rifle that I would have to illegally convert to make it fire?<

This is a kit gun. You are supposed to make it fire. You are legally allowed to do one of these per year. Best yet, no serial numbers are required. Just your good word.

>My brother in law will have a cow if I win

Your brother will move into the spare bedroom if you win ;) Better reconsider that raffle purchase if you ain't already buddies. :)

Although when we get all (600) of the tickets sold, those who have purchased the 3for$20 deal will have a one in 200 chance in winning.

Of course we haven't sold near even 100 yet so you all have better than a one-in-twenty chance of winning.

Don't get greedy. Spread the word and help Bob Stewart fight the Dragoons.
