500 safty

Took the 500 out today, and the safety is locked or stuck in the safe position. Cant force it to red and is very frustrating. Any ideas?

Have you pulled the trigger group out so you can get a better look at what the problem might be?

Look around the net or search TFL. If Hogdogs is around he will know what is going on. I have an idea but he or someone else here will know, but I believe it is a pretty simple fix.

The safety button is the weak spot in the 500.
They're plastic and break, often dropping one of the small pieces down in the inner works.
There's a detent ball and spring, in addition to the button parts.
Replace the button with a metal one, from one of the mail order sources.
The trigger group might need to be removed to get the piece out, if I remember correctly.

A clean trigger group and lightly oiled safety tab parts usually is the fix for this...
