why isnt anyone talking about the 4 inch 500 beast from smith and wesson??? i just saw it,,but couldn't believe it,,,

I saw one yesterday. Looks ver interesting. I could see getting one, but I already have a PC500 Hunter 6.5" revolver. I just put a 2x Weaver scope on it and got a preliminary sight in. The recoil of the 6.5" is already pretty tame, and adding the weight of the scope, mounts, and extended rib tames it even more.

Just bought one today! Nice balance and feel. This looks like THE PERFECT HOG GUN for brush hunting and with dogs.

Already have the 10.5 PC Hunter with red dot sight. You won't believe how accurate that one is! ~1.5" groups at 50 yards with 440 Performance cast bullets, and I wasn't really trying that hard.

Looking for shoulder or bandoleer holster recommendations for the 4" now.

I don't get the super-bore revolvers. I mean, the Raging Bull looks neat but seriously, what are you going to do with that that wouldn't be served 20x better, cheaper, easier and safer with either a smaller pistol or a rifle?

I carry a Remington 600 Mowhawk in .308 for hog hunting in the central California mountains. The 4" S&W 500 Magnum is for backup. Weight is important in the hills, but where the hogs run 250-300 pounds and more, backup is more important. The bigger the better is the name of the game when one is saving his backside far from the comfort and security of the truck.

Besides that, a Smith and Wesson revolver of almost any offering is a fine piece to own, enjoy, shoot, and collect without the downsides commonly associated with "lesser" quality firearms.

its basically about that....

I think it would make a good gun for Alaska. When the plane sinks or burns before you can get the rifle, all you have is what is strapped to your body. That's when I want the biggest gun that can be reasonably carried. The short S&W 500 is ideal.

It is also a good option to carry while fishing near bears (which is often the best spot).

Having just shot a .500 S&W for the first time at a recent TFL shoot all I can say is I want one!!! The one I shot was an 8.5" gun loaded with 400gr. Corbons. It was brutal to be sure but not half as bad as I imagined it would be. It does have the distinction of being the only handgun I`ve ever fired that literally rattled my teeth on the first shot. :) Marcus

I would love to have one myself...especially the 4 inch model...in a good holster I imagine it would carry well...perhaps not an "all-day" gun, but certainly for carry in bear territory...like in Alaska...or just to have for the fun of it. :D
