500 S&W Recoil experience?

I recently got a 454 casull 7 1/2 inch barrel. I was suprised at how little the 454 kicked (compared to what i was expecting) i was cosidering getting the 4 inch 500 smith. how does the 500 S&W kick compared to the 454 casull? BIGGER IS BETTER :D

from what everyone I've read here and other forums have said, the .500 is actually easier to shoot. I've shot a .454 once and that was enough for me.

There is a major difference. The extreme wrist snapping recoil of the 454 is a wake up. The 500 S&W I shot actually pushes straight back into your shoulders. I felt like I had bumped into someone. It isn't unpleasant and no CTS problems. The S&W 500 is more of a whole body experience. I was not shaken, stirred, cut, stapled or spindled. I am 5'11" and 230 lbs. YMMV

My 500SW 4" w/ 270 gr corbon's is I think a bit lighter than my 44mag 4" unported. Its not as sharp a recoil. That being said, its not a gun I'd want to take "plinking" or go out and run a 100 rounds through it in an hour... but jesus its fun to shoot :D

Even the 400gr Magtechs I used weren't bad at all either.

Just look at the ergonomically challenged grip shape of an SA wheelie, you can tell that even 44 Mag kick can hurt.

It's supposed to roll in my hand? But I use TWO hands :o and it bangs my knuckles :(

^true. I blame myself for the lack of camera abilities ;) I guess I could hand load some with some fairly slow burning powder  :D

What recoil?!?! Its WAY less than any 454 on the market, and probably more inline with my 629 with heavy loads...between the weight, barrel length and compensator, the things a kitten!!

How does the S&W 500 compare to a 329PD? (The latter is as punishing as I can stand...it's mid-week before the swelling leaves the web between thumb and index finger).

I own both and, trust me, the 329PD is more punishing to shoot than the 500. I've shot my 329PD with Hornady 300gr. XTP's and it is rediculously harsh. The heft of the 500 (I've got the 8-3/8" model), along with the compensator combine to make the 500 quite tolerable in my opinion.

Pachmeyr Decelerator grips help the 329PD considerably, as they cover the backstrap unlike the Hogue rubber grip that comes with the gun.
