50 vs 54 bp

there are reasons good and bad for buying anything. take a look at the 50 vs the 54 there is where my question lyes.

lets skip the balony and go for the backstrap.

can a 50 be loaded up to a 54 level safely?

does you 50 cal loads that hot or is it just time to get a 54.

Not sure what you mean, but IF you mean, "can one use the same loads in a .50 cal rifle as a .54 cal rifle", the answer is yes.

I prefer a .54 the majority of the time, but it really depends on what your target is.
 
clarafication

there are probably a few myself possibly that at times wishes i had the 54 cal than the 50.
In some instances people will try to blow the snot and their eye teeth and fillings when at the range or hunting like trying to make a 41 mag in to 44 magnum

I am not that type i dont want to end up in the next county or zip code just something that is accurate and powerful enough to humanly kill the animal and comfortable to shoot
 
A .54 can be loaded with some projectiles that can't be loaded in a .50 and every gun has its own limits.
So I guess that the answer depends on what a person wants to load in their gun and for what purpose.
A .54 may not shoot as fast or as flat, and a .50 may not penetrate as deep, hit as hard or produce as large of a wound channel.
 
A black powder long-hunter I'm not. Ive used the .50. Some years ago I got a Traditions .54 caplock. Then I lucked into a .54 T/C FLINTLOCK! I love these rifles for what they are. The .54 does expend more energy which is dumped into the target... and there are sabots to allow the use of other smaller projectiles. JMO..YMMV
 
Mass Kills !!

I have always hunted with .50's both with Traditionals and "the other one".
There are times that I throw in with a strict Traditional bunch and we set up a camp. Strictly old school, PRB and BP. All in this group, have gone to the .54's and tease me about my .50. ...... ;)
