Recently bought a used New England Firearms Huntsman 50cal. In line muzzleloders. I purchased the replacement breech plug that takes 209 primers directly with no carrier. It came with the manual and it gives you a couple of different loads for it but I cant find the grain bullets they reccomend. 250 and 300 grain. Bullets seem to be the standard. Can I shoot these safely out of my gun with pyrodex pellets? Even though the book doesnt state it.

Sure. You may have to experiment with different weights and powder charges to get the best accuracy/ Loose powder is better and cheaper than pellets.

I've used Pyrodex, 777, and now BH209 in my NEF muzzle loader with no issues. My manual says with conicals from 250-490 grains use 40-120 grains of loose powder, or up to 150 grains with Pyrodex pellets. I use a 270 grain Areoflite bullet and 90 grains BH209 powder and it gives me a 2" group at 100 yards.

Just make sure to use the ramrod as shown in the manual. For range use I would buy a one piece rod and only use the collapsible one in the field.I have A Sidekick my son has a Huntsman. These guns shoot just as well or better than inlines I have that cost a lot more.
