.50 BMG Upper

Does anyone own this AR15 conversion? I was wondering how well built it is and how the accuracy was compared to an actual .50 BMG rifle. It's quite a $$ saver for those that already own AR's but am I better off saving my cans and pennies to buy the real deal?

i read this year that a screw breached Watson AR upper did OK at a 50bmg FCSA shoot.

there is a possibility that the upper will pound the lower, but me thinks most of the force moves though the butt pad.

The Sebu BFG 50 is another option the the $2k range

Could an AR stock actualy hold up to all that? Daaaggg!!

The pic looks like its a little "light in the ass".

I emailed back and forth with Tony Rumore at Tromix about the 50BMG upper he makes for AR's. I wondered if the lower could take the abuse, too.

My lower being a telescoping stocked SP1, he told me to buy a full stock lower (I believe he'll throw one in for another $250 if you buy the upper), since the telescoping stack won't handle the punch.

I've decided to go for his 458 Socom instead. A few more bucks to save and it's mine!!! Ohhhhh yaaaaaaaa!!!!:D ;)

Here's a link: Tromix Tony himself will email you back. He's very knowledgeable when it comes to messin with an AR's original configuration.

Thanks Yanky. That 458 is unbelievable and the uppers are pretty inexpensive.Any word on the cost of ammo?

Corbon, after many, many weeks of putting Tony off, has finally started production just a couple weeks ago. No word on cost yet, but you may be able to contact Corbon (www.corbon.com?) and ask.

Since I'm a reloader, I plan to buy about 1000 rounds at first and reload them until they're thin as tinfoil.

You can find a similar conversion at www.watsonsweapons.com, which is mounted on an AR-15 lower; to use it, to pull the rear pin, tip the upper up, unscrew the bolt with a handle (which extracts the fired round), then slip a new round into the shell-holder style bolt, thread it back in, cock the hammer, then tip the upper back down and lock it in place with the push pin. Sort of slow, but it's an upper only, so no FFL needed.

Yankey, the Tromix is a .50 AE, not BMG. The difference being, I think, 54mm, and about 2000 yards ;) :D They are nice, though. I just need to decide if i want to get one of those, or a suppressed .300 Whisper after I get done with Boot camp at PI in March. Decisions, decisions, maybe I'll get both :p

You gotta love the gif above the counter

Tony at Tromix also had a sholder fired 50 BMG

it's not on the website any more

:(

if i was in dangerous bear country i think a 458 SOCOM AR would be in the field with me.

I wonder if you could shoot a saboted 30 cal bullet down that tube with a lighter load, for those times when you want some of the meat on Bambi not air drying in the tops of the surrounding pine trees

:p
