I would just get one to say I have one, even though after i buy it, I could probably only afford maybe at the most 50 rounds for it ;)

There are a fair number of 50-caliber clubs in the western states. There are competition matches, usually with the targets out beyond 1,000 yards.

I've read of five-inch groups at 1,000, and similar MOA groups out at a mile or so.

Barrett is apparently the top of the line in the .50s. They have a web site; worth checking out. And, of course, there are some "po-boy" versions.

Loading for them ain't cheap, either. Lotsa powder per shot, and quality bullets run $1.50 or so, each.

Impressive to shoot, for sure...

I believe Montana was the first to outlaw them for use in hunting. Popping a standing-peacefully elk at 1,500 yards was not considered sporting.

Does anyone recognize it? At first I thought is was a Barrett 99, but upon a more thouough look, it's not.

I know of a guy who hunst white tail with it ,at about 1200 yds. Hornady makes an A-Max for it, it is their equivalent of the Nosler Balistic Tip. That would tear about anything in half :D

..

gives a new meaning to "reaching out and touching them" like varmint hunters say lol-50 cal people are like-see that deer on that other mountain over there-bet i can drop it ;)-betya 5 rounds of ammo-other guy says-NO WAY I AINT BETTING 50 bucks ;) lol i dont think i'll ever own 1 of those... unless i move to arizona or something -or nevada

Not a great deal. These are in stock at the gun store where my son works, $2100 takes it out the door. They also have mil-surp ammo for $1.70 a round. Great fun to shoot.

I too have only seen the stainless/nickle version. Fine looking weapon. I wouldn't want one though, too much for my pocketbook.

I want a windrunner after I win the lottery

on recoil...

A guy I spoke with owns one... friend, against all advice, wanted to shoot it without the muzzle brake. The result? A detached retina and permanently damaged shoulder.

I've heard that one with a proper muzzle brake anchored to a pad is on par with a 12 gauge pump... Saw a vid of the Maadi guy firing a BMG carbine from the hip and that's about what it looked like recoil wise. Keep in mind, however, the light ones are 20+ lbs, a shotgun would probably feel like a .223 if it weighed that much...

The LAR's are often considered the Lorcin's of the .50 world. 2K is way too much for one - for that money go with State Arms or Serbu.

Rocko

The literature that comes with the LAR states that the recoil is about the same as a twelve gauge. I found it to be less painfull than that, less of a sharp kick , more like a solid shove. Its 30# weight and very effective muzzle brake make it a pleasure to shoot. The muzzle blast is something on a whole new level. You want to have earplugs and muffs.

Rocko,

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I wonder what leads you to make that statement. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about the LAR, however, I have heard people mention that they don't prefer the bullpup/shellholder design. To put the LAR in the same category as a Lorcin is doing the rifle and the company a great disservice. The LAR uses a Lothar Walther barrel, as does many of the other .50 manufacturers, including Serbu.

Last time I checked, Lorcin didn't use an expensive, match grade barrel in their firearms.

P.S. I WISH that the LAR Grizzly handguns were as cheap as Lorcins!

Some people buy them for the same reason that some people buy Chevys and some people buy Caddies - different tastes. On the shell-holder style of single shot 50s', some people don't like them because most of them cock the firing pin as the "holder" is being pushed home, as opposed to a normal bolt-action type of action. It's a perceived safety issue or so I'm told.
