Does that actually date from WWII? It seems odd that at a time when civilians were donating all their scrap metal to the war effort the military would just bury their brass. But then again I've read that some of the rationing and recycling projects were just to make the civilians feel more involved in the war effort.

No, it really doesn't. Read /re-read the forum rules on "drive by" posts. Just a title and a link isn't enough. There needs to be a a question or commentary for discussion.
