5.56 Ammo: Cheap v.s. ...Cheap

My dilemma:

Online - 500rounds WPA either 55gr FMJ or 62gr JHP $99+ Shippping. 1000rounds $190+ shipping.

LGS - Brown bear 62gr JHP Boat Tail. $5.50 per 20. +7% tax.

Think its worth the extra coin to support my LGS and get the boat tail bullet? 95% of my shooting will be <50yrds but I will shoot out to 500 maybe more every once in a while just for giggles. This is from a Saiga with 16"bbl 1:9 twist.

Your thoughts?

^^This.
But a few boxes form your LGS. This gives you a chance to see if the Saiga likes it. If so, go back and buy in a bunch, they may give you a deal on a bulk purchase.

Alreay have 2 boxs to test but I honestly don't see them being a problem. I doubt they'll give me a break on a bulk order it's already on sale from $7 to $5.50.

How much of a help does everyone think the boat tail would be?

At <50 meters you won't notice a difference with the boat tail. There was a period of time that long range shooters on this and other forums even debated the advantage of a boat tail at all. So in your Saiga, I doubt it'll be an issue.

If you can afford to support the LGS, do it. If nothing else, give them a chance to price match. That's what I do. It's nice that Palmetto State Armory is my LGS though :D.

As far as Brown Bear ammo, I run it and Silver Bear in all my rifles and have never had any issue.

But it would be of significant help at a range of around 500 yards?

Also, I've had no issue with wolf black box from dicks but I've never tried WPA. How do you guys think they compare quality wise?
