475 Wildey Magnum

I saw one of these exotic handguns last week. It had a 12 inch barrel and exotic engraving on it for $2995. I have never seen the actual round though. How does it compare in power to the other heavyweight handgun rounds like 44 Magnum, 454 Casull, 50 AE, 475 and 500 Linebaugh, and 480 Ruger?

Interesting, I'm not ashamed to say I've never heard of it...

You say it was a semi? What magazines were used in this beast?

True enough, the 475 is rather impressive and depending on the load and barrel length, it packs a bit more energy than 1,700 lbs. Sounds like an engraved Wildey- similiar to what was referenced in the other responses.

I am lucky enough to have a Wildey chambered for that round and despite the energy and associated recoil, in a 5 lb semi auto, it's not bad to fire. At 25 yards, with the rear sight buried, the rounds still impact about 10" high- a problem I plan to rectify with the load rather than altering the pistol.

My claim to fame- at 400 yards, with a large dirt field/hill behind the target- and after seeing the dust cloud impacts and adjusting, I managed to put the last three rounds (of 7) on a 14" x 14" target.

As usual, I say: "Go buy it!" With the engraving, that sounds like a decent deal. I am tickled with my two (unengraved, but with the factory wood presentation box)- the 475 Wildey Magnum as well as a 45 Win Mag.

'Nuff said?

From Death Wish 3, in which Charles Bronson settles in a neighborhood besieged by hoodlums. He sends out for "Wildey", and it arrives in the mail.

Martin Balsam asks him if it is as powerful as the Dirty Harry .44 magnum, and Bronson proceeds to tell him all about it. I think it was a .475 Wildey magnum.

I have never shot a Wildey , but imo it's avery nice looking
gun . Much better looking than the desert Eagle . I would
buy one if i had the money . I also saw it in Death wish 3,
and the Dirty Harry Gun mentioned was a 44 Automag from
Sudden Impact .
