475 Wildey Magnum

My taste in handguns has recently leaned towards the big bores and I understand the 475 Wildey magnum is one of the biggest. I'm interested in reliability, recoil, and if ammo can still be bought for it. Thanks.

Wildey .475-

I had a couple years back, it was a reload only proposition. You may also find a local reloader to help? Being a guncrank or smith doesn't hurt since the Wildey is a little tricky to tear down and reassemble. Bulets are now more available than then since the .475 Linebaughs and 480 Rugers are in production. IMO the LARs are better guns, no gas system to clean and no screws to disassemble the gun for cleaning. The Wildey's rib must be removed each time for cleaning etc. Roy

The cartridge is cool but the guns leave something to be desired. The grip size, trigger reach and ergonomics on those things makes a Desert Eagle look like a BHP. This from a guy who has big hands and likes big guns. I always wanted a Wildey until I handled on in person. Marcus
