475 Linebaugh

Come year end bonus time, I plan to get a 475. I would be interested in hearing any input as to whether I should go with a Freedom Arms or have one built by the Linebaugh shop. Thanks

Big plus for the Freedom Arms is that they have a following and the value of these firearms remain high, even for resale. Down side is waiting for a gun. It is about 6 months.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but Linebaugh and other are nothing more than glorified S/S Blackhawks. FA builds their own from the ground up. And the quality of the Freedom Arms is unrivaled, second to none on the gun market.

Greetings, you would get some interesting comments on the message board of www.sixgunner. FYI the quality at Freedom Arms has fallen off since the management changed hands from Wayne Baker to his son? Bob Baker. On the used market the "custom" guns from Bowen/Linebaugh etc hold their value much better than the FA guns. The Ruger conversions IMO are better because of resale, a longer cylinder (bullet options and less pressures) and a tranfer bar safety system. Aquiring custom stocks (grips) for the FA can be a nightmare while choices for the Ruger are everywhere..henry

Yeah, I heard about a possible decline in quality of the FAs. That's why I would like to see a .475Line before buying.

Does anyone know why Linebaugh doesn't use the SRH? Ruger's used it for the new .454, which makes a whole lotta sense to me. It's got a massive amount of steel-more than Ruger's old-style single action revolvers. And it's ready for a scope out of the box. Yet, from what I can see on his website, he doesn't do anything with the SRH. Does anyone else?

I forgot to include the point of my post--IF you want to have a custom .457, I'd suggest using the SRH. Nothing against the Bisley, but you're talking about some massive forces--way beyond the 19th century. I've got the Ruger .454, and that extra steel linking the barrel and the frame is real nice. Maybe I'm just paranoid.
