Would you go with a 1911 or Glock 21 conversion kit and why?
I'm interested in this caliber but not sure what route to take. I like Glocks and I like 1911's..ha decisions...... :)

Well, I have Glocks in various calibers..I love 'em BUT I don't have a 1911...soooo.....I may just go that route...so, which 1911? LOL I'm opening a can of worms haha

I believe they say that stainless steel is a no no. I would probably go with a Rock Island first. If I really liked it I would start saving my pennies for one of the premium 1911 makers double stack offerings.

I'm not Glock's biggest fan, and much prefer the 1911 in fact. That being said, for this powerful cartridge, I'd have to go with Glock. This, because of the Glock's greater slide mass/weight. The Glock 21 has the heaviest slide of any service size pistol I have encountered. Though strength is not the primary issue, I suspect impressive strength comes with the G21 slide mass. I know manufacturers and shooters try to make up for marginal slide mass in some pistol/cartridge combinations by using heavy springs, dual springs, buffers, barrel weights, compensators, etc. I would much rather just have a pistol with sufficient slide mass and forego all the other things I mentioned in achieving a pistol that is both reliable and durable......ymmv

sandman: I set-up my Colt Series 80 SS for the original ballistics of the .45 Super in '91. Those ballistics are almost what the .460 Rowland is today....At the very least... they overlap.
Over 2000 rds later, There is no noticeable wear (vs. normal loads) on the .45. If it will take the 10MM pressures, it'll take the Rowland.
There are certain minor mods needed to keep the frame/slide battering to a minimum and should be adhered to....As set up ...my .45 still shoots factory hardball loads w/o a hiccup.
I did secure an aftermarket fully-enclosed-chamber barrel for it, but the original barrel was/is sufficient. Go for it.

I have an XD-45 with a Rowland conversion kit in it. I also installed a DPM Systems recoil reduction kit for the Rowland. The only other mods I made were stronger mag springs to compensate for the increased slide speeds. I have been having a lot of fun working up loads for it. It kicks like a mule, but not like my 45WM Grizzly.
