.460 Rowland

Had a chance to shoot one a couple weeks back. Very managable for the power level - much lighter than similar loadings in a .44 mag revolver.

All in 5" bbl pistol:
185s at 1550fps
200 = 1450fps
230 = 1340fps

uses a drop-in bbl kit & will still shoot reg ol' 45ACP & (what's that "other" round?) .45 Winchester or magnum? I forget ....

Uses standard 45ACP magazines.

Quite the package.

Might use .45 Super - but if you can use standard .45 ACP magazines it certainly won't handle the .45 Win. Mag. which is quite a bit longer than the .45 ACP.

Sure could be the 45 Super. I really don't know swat about the 45 family.

Kinda surprised this 460 Rowland cartridge hasn't gotten quite a bit of press in the gun rags, etc. ... or in here.

There's a carbine conversion as well, which uses the 1911 frame & hooks up to a carbine upper. Supposedly 1900fps+ for the 185gr.

The case length for .460 Rowland is, I think 1.00". Standard .45 ACP/.45 Super is .898". You can shoot .45 ACP in it if you change back to the old barrel... No way will it shoot .45 Win. mag... case length for it is around 1.2" - 1.4". The .460 is an awesome round, but I prefer .45 Super because I only had to change springs. The factory Supers are really hot... 1450 FPS with a 165 gr. bullet, so I load my own... :D

I get 1400 out of 165, 1350 with 185, and 1200 with 200 gr. bullets. a 230 FMJ goes 1050, so far... :D

If it doesn't have over 500 ft/lbs at the muzzle, I ain't interested... :D

.45 Super... Fat and FAST...

Right on time.
This past Saturday, 6 May 2K, Johnny Rowland was here in Alabama for a fun shoot and gun demo. I met with him and picked his brain a bit for info on the cartridge. The case is a strengthened .45 ACP case with a length of .955(according to the round I borrowed to measure). When I asked Why not name it .450 Rowland? Johnny said it was to keep folks from automatically associating the cartridge with the standard ACP round and try to use it in a weaker gun.
I did ask if the .460 guns would fire the .45 Super and Johnny said yes. He went on to say the Super is between the ACP and .460 in power. The .460 cartridge is loaded to the same OAL as the ACP so it will work in standard ACP magazines. The .45 WinMag has a longer case length and will not chamber correctly in a .460 gun.
The carbine unit was offered up for test firing, and it was pretty impressive. Info on the kit can be found at www.mechtechsys.com. The carbine conversion unit (CCU) was equipped with a holosight, which made quick, accurate shots out to 100 yards a snap. Handling was very simple and the recoil was about like a .223. The CCU was fired off and on all day and if there were any malfunctions, I didn't see them.
This is definately on the wish list.
