Colt's New Service Target was also available in 45 ACP. These are fine revolvers, but rather uncommon and very pricey.

To my mind the best value is a S&W 1955. I own one and have shot several others. All are exceptionally nice shooting revolvers.

Not to be overlooked - - -

Several years ago, there were a lot of South American (Brazillian? Argentine?) navy contract S&W 1917-type revolvers re-imported. They mostly had rather muddy finishes, even those that hadn't been reblued. They were reasonably priced, and, from all reports, the majority were pretty tight and shot well.

As with so many import items that were inexpensive (not cheap, mind you) eight or ten years ago, these have gone up in price. They can still be had at gun shows for a good deal less than a good GI M1917, and FAR less than other S&W Hand Ejector revolvers. An already-refinished example can be customized without ruining collector's value, and they are a good, solid, strong, large frame .45 ACP revolver, without being overly heavy. I like 'em!

This was just another option. I am in full agreement with the above suggestions. The older model, blue, 1955 S&W (M25) set the standard, long ago. For an all around sidearm, the Ruger BKH convertible is an outstanding value. A 1911 magazine is an excellent loading accessory for these SA revolvers, too.:p

Best,
Johnny

Don't forget the Dan Wesson 7460. Takes .45ACP, .45 Autorim, .45 Super, .45 WinMag, and .460 Rowland.

I've had mine for 2 months now and it's an excellent gun. Bit pricy at $800, but it's worth every penny in my estimation.

I have a Model 25-2 .45 ACP revolver that I have had since 1975. It started as a 6.5" barreled target revolver. Now it is a 5" barreled combat revolver. Very accurate. Shoots the same IPSC loads as my 1911. Very pleasant to shoot and very accurate.
I also have NMBHs with a .45 ACP cylinder. They shoot well, but I mostly shoot them with the .45 Colt cylinder.

IMHO the best 45acp revolver deal out there right now are the Brazilian contract S&Ws. they are great, accurate, look pretty rough but shoot as well or better than 99% of what is being built today.

I passed up a chance to buy a VG condition Brazilian Smith for $85 back in '90 or '91. Still hate to remember that bad decision. I didn't need it, but . . . so what?

Aaargh.
